I’m a mining engineer turned UX designer from Kolkata, India, with over 25 years of experience in the IT industry. Over the years, I’ve worn many hats—graphic designer, programmer, project manager, and more—before finding my true calling in UX design.
My career journey has been anything but linear. I’ve worked as a mining and construction engineer, a private investigator, a part-time college lecturer, and now, a UX designer. What connects these diverse roles is my love for doing what excites me, and the encouragement of friends and colleagues who’ve often told me I have a knack for understanding people and solving problems creatively.
In fact, it was a senior leader in one of my previous organizations who first suggested I move into UX, believing I’d be a natural fit. Taking that leap meant leaving behind a lead visual designer role to explore something new—and I’ve never looked back.
Between 2017 and 2019, I took a sabbatical to pursue another passion: writing. During that time, I authored two books before returning to the industry as a UX designer with PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Beyond work, I enjoy reading, writing, and illustrating for newspapers and magazines. I also volunteer as a caregiver for senior citizens. As a visual artist, I maintain a design portfolio, and I channel my creativity into my T-shirt brand, Coolkuchi ( http://www.coolkuchi.in ), where I design original, quirky apparel.
